I’m finally posting this personal shoot, can you believe it?!

This was shot LAST March and for some odd reason I am barely getting around to posting it. Which is strange because this is one of my favorite personal shoots ever! My good friend Andria and I decided to take a spontaneous road trip down to Portland to do some personal shooting and just have some girl time. I could not have asked for a more perfect day. The vibe was just right, the energy was flowing, and we had the best group of models to work with.

Hope you all enjoy this shoot as much as I did…there are many more personal shoots coming soon!

I met Heather within the first few months I moved to Seattle in 2007 and got a waitressing job at the good ol’ Spaghetti Factory (shout-out to all the once “spaggers” out there!) She was always kind and sweet….never without a smile on her face. Years later here we are crossing paths. Heather is now just starting her own photography business and thought it would be a great idea to get some photos done of herself!…which is a GREAT idea for all artists out there. People want to see you, they want to see who they’re working with. And especially for photographers, I think it’s great to feel what it is like on the other side of the lens for once. I need to take my own advice and get some done myself : )

This session was so much fun! We chose a general area and then just explored. My favorite type of shooting! Walking through neighborhoods and finding little nooks and crannies of pure goodness. We caught up on life, shared some laughs, and created some fun images. It was a good day to say the least.

I had so much fun photographing these two. They still have that young love. That spark. That giggle. That look. Nothing makes me happier than working with couples who have all of that and more. A few weeks after their session I received the sweetest email from Courtney about their session…another reason why I love her! I just love the reminder she gave me…that photography is so much more powerful than most may think. Photography has the power to let us relive moments, to feel all sorts of different emotions, and to remind us of the things in life that are most important. Here’s what she said:

“It’s funny, the night before you released our sneak peek image John & I had a bit of a spat and I was still a bit upset at him the next day as he headed off to work. But, when I saw your image, it totally just reminded me of how blessed I am to have him in my life and I couldn’t help but tear up a bit (what a sap, right?!). Thank you so much for your beautiful talents Tonhya! Man, photography is a powerful thing and I’m really glad we’ll have some images to put up around our home to enjoy and remind us how good life is! ”

It’s emails like this…people like this…shoots like this…that make me fall in love with my job all over again.

I’m making a quick trip back home this coming weekend and wanted to give all of you a chance to start booking some sessions while I’m down.
